A Message from Rhode Island Employers & Residents
Dear Legislator,
I urge you to pause Budget Article 5 and reject any rushed effort to enact a so-called “millionaire tax” this year.
This proposal sends the wrong signal. Rhode Island should be focused on retaining employers and attracting new investment—not creating more uncertainty.
We cannot afford to ignore what is already happening in other states, including Massachusetts. When businesses leave, revenue leaves with them. And when businesses choose not to come, the jobs and tax revenue never come at all.
Rhode Island is a small state. We do not have the margin for error.
The strategy is simple:
Grow businesses. Grow jobs. Grow revenue.
We all want a healthy, thriving Rhode Island—and we can have it all if we get this right.
Pause this proposal. Study the data. Learn from other states before making a decision we cannot undo.
