• Stop & Shop Unveils Lower Everyday Prices on Thousands of Items in All Rhode Island Stores and Eliminates Paper Bag Fee

Actions Make Shopping More Affordable for Rhode Island Customers Through Lower Prices on Private Brand and National Brand Products and No 10-Cent Bag Fee

Stop & Shop Also Adds New Saving Kiosks to Make It Easier for Customers to Save with Digital Coupons

Stop & Shop today announced a number of changes to improve its shopping experience and make groceries more affordable at all of its 25 stores in Rhode Island. These actions include:

    • Lowering everyday, regular prices on thousands of items across national and private brand products. On average, customers will benefit from reductions in the everyday pricing of at least 3,500 products across each store.
    • Eliminating its 10-cent paper bag fee at all stores across the state, making them once again free for Rhode Island shoppers.
    • Launching new Savings Kiosks, which are in-store savings centers where customers can save on their groceries with digital coupons, printed in-store or delivered to their phone, every time they shop.
“Today, we are announcing a significant investment in our Rhode Island Stop & Shop stores that will deliver a better shopping experience and bring more value to our local customers,” said Roger Wheeler, President, Stop & Shop. “We have been listening to our customers – and we have heard you. That is why we’re making it possible to buy more groceries for your family, at a lower cost, at every one of our stores in Rhode Island. We’re also investing in more store remodels, like our newly refreshed location in Richmond, which will be complete later this month. We’re going to continue to listen to your feedback and will, over time, make even more changes across all areas of the store.”

    New, Lower Prices
Stop & Shop’s new, lower everyday prices include private brands and national brands across nearly every department. Shoppers can easily spot the price reductions in store through yellow tags highlighting the new versus old pricing. Examples of new everyday pricing on staple items include*:

    Making It Easier to Save
Stop & Shop will also install in-store kiosks, called Savings Stations, across Rhode Island to make it easier for customers to redeem digital coupons and save money through its GO Rewards loyalty program, which allows enrolled customers to earn points that can be redeemed for dollars off their next grocery purchase, free products, or gas savings. At the Savings Station, customers can simply scan their GO Rewards loyalty card or enter their phone number to instantly activate all digital coupons associated with their account. The Savings Station also automatically activates customers’ personal offers, which are relevant deals just for them based on items they buy most. Stop & Shop is the first grocery retailer in Rhode Island to make digital coupons more accessible to all customers, and the installment of the Savings Stations across the state is part of a larger effort to install these kiosks brand wide by early next year.

Stop & Shop offers customers even more ways to save, including:

    • Weekly Sales – Stop & Shop continues to offer great values through sale prices on thousands of items every week.
    • Deal Lock – This program allows customers to take advantage of lowered prices longer with savings on hundreds of items for weeks at a time.
    • Meal Deals – These deals consist of a protein on sale plus several complementary items for free to complete a meal for a family of four. A recent example of a meal deal includes a taco dinner recipe featuring ground beef on sale with free participating taco seasoning, beans, shells, and shredded cheese.
Earlier this year, Stop & Shop announced a multi-year strategy to improve the customer experience through price investments, store remodels, and a focus on in-store service. This statewide effort in Rhode Island is the retailer’s latest effort to deliver more value to its customers through lower everyday pricing and strong promotions, which it expects to continue to roll out over the next several years.
