• Foster Family Support Worker

    Completes monthly visit to every foster home on caseload and provides ongoing support as needed. Completes and obtains required annual licensing paperwork and annual assessment for foster parents. Coordinates, plans, and conducts training for foster families.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

    • Providing Support to Foster Parents.
    • Schedules a minimum of one visit to the foster home every month.
    • Provides ongoing support to the foster parent by helping to assist in modifying and teaching to children’s behaviors utilizing the Boys Town Behavior Model. Also, helping to navigate resources available through either community supports or the department.  
    • Documents all contact with or about foster parents.
    • Completes a safety check during each visit to ensure the home meets safety standards set by DCF and EEC.
    • Requests driving, criminal background checks, review references and obtain all other necessary paperwork for updated annual assessments for current foster parents as needed.
    • Prepares and submits annual assessment for each foster parent to the supervisor on time.
    • Attends all Foster Care Reviews and other meetings with providers.
    • May be trained to become a certified Common Sense Parenting Instructor and as a certified instructor may be asked to conduct Common Sense Parenting (CSP) Courses at designated locations as assigned.
    • Trains Foster Parents.
    • Coordinates, plans, and supervises initial and ongoing training activities for foster parents.
    • Coordinates and conducts initial training of potential foster parents to include state specific and Boys Town specific materials.
    • Develops annual training calendar of initial, ongoing, and network meeting topics; develops and collects training materials for ongoing training materials and tracks foster parent training hours.
    • Directs all actions to reflect the values and principles of Boys Town.
    • Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and ethical behavior.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    • Knowledge of and experience with training specifically in behavioral modification and trauma.
    • Advanced critical-thinking and problem-solving, including ability to make assessments and use sound judgment.
    • Knowledge of the foster care system and foster care laws and regulations.
    • Ability to teach and train adults.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex material.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, professionalism, and role modeling.
    • Knowledge of Boys Town Model.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's degree in Social or Behavioral Science, related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Additional education and experience may be required by state regulation and laws or contractual requirements.
    • Minimum 1 year of experience required.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) required.
    • Ability to provide own transportation to complete travel requirements of job; meet auto insurance requirements established by Boys Town policy and/or State and Local law requirements.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Experience in the Boys Town Model preferred.
    • Bilingual skills in some locations preferred.
