The Academic Tutor for biology provides one-on-one and/or group tutoring sessions to help students develop effective learning and study strategies for biology courses.  Academic Tutors aid students in breaking down course material and understanding concepts. Courses in specific need of support include: Introduction to Biology, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Genetics, and Microbiology.

Essential Job Functions

• If needed, supervise the evening operations including the student tutoring staff and facilitate the tutorial services in the Academic Success Center;
• Help student untangle new concepts, assist them by teaching how to read, evaluate, and complete complicated equations, solve appropriate problems, and write lab reports;
• Meet face-to-face and/or remotely in small groups to help them identify learning issues in biology, and develop skills that will build successful techniques for progress and excellence in their academic work;
• Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty;
• Attend training activities to comply with tutoring requirements and expectations before and/or during semesters
• Adhere to tutoring center protocol and use of appointment-making tools (WC Online)
• Provide documentation and analysis of student attendance and performance during tutoring sessions;
• Demonstrated experience with working with diverse students and learners;
• Work with Assistant Director Academic Success Center/Math Learning Lab to increase awareness and usage of the Academic Success Center;
• Refer students and faculty to learning and support services on campus as appropriate;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Demonstrate competency in use of contemporary computer software including Microsoft Office Suite;
• Support in the recruitment process of student tutors and;
• Assist with other learning assistance projects as assigned.

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director Academic Success Center/Math Learning Lab.
