The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce was founded during the height of Rhode Island’s industrial prosperity in 1868. Our mission, then and now, is to be the voice for commerce and private sector business in our community.

The Chamber is financially strong with more than 1500 member-companies located throughout Rhode Island and beyond. Our staff of 12 is composed of experts in economic development, government affairs, small business and communications and is led by a Certified Chamber Executive.

Our headquarters is located at 30 Exchange Terrace in Providence which once housed the historic Union Station railroad depot. In the mid-1980s, after the train tracks were relocated, the Chamber bought the building at the west end of the Romanesque complex. That move catalyzed the redevelopment of an important  urban corridor. Today, Commerce Center sits at the confluence of the city’s financial, retail, jewelry and knowledge districts.

"Thank you for hosting Louder Than Words, such a wonderful event. Bob Kelleher was probably the best speaker I've ever seen! He was validating so much of what HR people know and try to communicate to their executives and employees. His book gives a structured approach for doing just that – he was fantastic and I can’t wait to pick up a copy of his newest book! The need for re-certification credit was what drove me to the event and while the monsoon that morning had me reconsidering my attendance – I was thrilled to have gone. I came back to the office with great ideas on employee engagement – a sense of comfort in knowing that we are very competitively placed with workplace flexibility – and was able to bring back RIRx Discount cards for our employees. It was wonderful to attend a Chamber event that taught us something, engaged and allowed us to contrast our benefits with other employers, and educated us on a prescription discount program – all before noon! "The RI Mentoring Partnership has been welcomed into the fold at the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce and found that being a member is vital and beneficial for our non-profit organization. Through the many events hosted by GPCC, we have been able to reach a large number of RI businesses, allowing us to provide positive adult role models as mentors for children throughout our state (like Ryan LePage of Morgan Stanley, prictured here with his mentee.) The GPCC is helping us to build stronger relationships that will foster the growth of children and the community at large. "
